  • Types of steel beams

Types of steel beams

Steel is primarily alloyed with carbon, because carbon and other alloys increase the strength of steel and therefore reduce ductility. The purpose of this is to make it one of the most stable materials with an atomic structure in the universe, and the best structural building material known today, which, in addition to its high wear resistance, also makes it suitable for use in places subject to severe stress. In addition to high strength and toughness, good weldability and the controllability of strength and deformation properties within wide limits are also among the beneficial properties of steels used in the construction industry. There is also stainless steel, which is not damaged by the moisture and oxygen content of the air, which means that its surface does not rust.

I, H or U

Due to their advantageous properties, steel beams are mostly used when a very strong, durable and heavy-duty structure is needed. Different sizes and names of steel beams, such as UNP, U, HEB, IPE, HEA, 160, 140, 80, 65, 200, etc. indicate the bearing capacity of the beams. The larger the structure someone wants to insure, the better it is to choose a steel beam with a higher load capacity. The individual names, such as I, H or U indicate the shape of the cross section of the steel beam.

The I-and H-beams

The I and H beams can be used most effectively for bridging, but they are rarely encountered in residential buildings, because the steel always forms a thermal bridge in the structure. For this reason, it is not recommended, for example, to place it above windows as a bridge. Therefore, it does not usually play a big role in residential properties, but it can be a very useful addition during renovations or conversions. And it is an ideal solution in cases where thermal insulation is not important, the only thing that matters is that the end result is sufficiently stable and solid. The H cross-section steel beams provide great support thanks to the two bases.

The U-beams

The U-beam is a building material available in a wide variety of sizes, it also comes in different material thicknesses and lengths, which is why it can be used in a wide variety of ways. In most cases, similar to the I beam, the U beam is also used for the construction of building structures, mainly in the case of industrial facilities, larger halls or lightweight buildings. The strong U-beam is often used as a raw material for parts of various machines, but it can also be an ideal solution for creating fences, metal pillars or shelf systems..
