  • 1 head onion

  • garlic

  • fat or oil

  • 2 tablespoons ground red pepper

  • 1 tomato, salt

  • sour cream

STORY

Many people know and prepare chicken paprikash in many different ways, although it is usually eaten with dumplings. A few years ago, on the Ides of March, our friends with small children came to visit us, and according to the national day, we served the chicken paprikash not with dumplings, but with colored pasta, so that it was shaped like a cockade on the plate and showed off the Hungarian colors. That’s how we made the food a little unique and the national day special, where there was no shortage of smudged children and good cheer!!

By the way chicken paprikash is one of the most popular Hungarian dishes, and contains the main typical ingredients of Hungarian cuisine: meat, onion, red pepper, sour cream. Ground down, it is the stuffing of another delicious national food, the Hortobágy-style pancake.

DIRECTIONS

1. Fry the chopped onion in fat, sprinkle with ground red pepper and add the chicken pieces. Pour a little water on it and mix well. Add the chopped tomatoes, season with salt (and more to taste) and cook in a pot or saucepan, sometimes pouring a little water over it.
2. After the meat softened, it can be enriched with sour cream to taste: you can also mix in the thickening, or just add sour cream on the plate.
3. Serve with dumplings or boiled pasta.
4. Enjoy your meal!
