Gingerbreads from Toruń

INGREDIENTS

  • cups of wheat flour – 500 g

  • 3/4 cube of butter – 150 g

  • half a glass of brown sugar – about 150 g

  • 200 g of liquid honey

  • half a glass of creamy natural yogurt or 18% sour cream – 150g

  • 4 egg yolks

  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda

  • a teaspoon of cocoa

  • spices: a teaspoon of cinnamon; a teaspoon of ground ginger; half a teaspoon

  • each of ground cloves, nutmeg, black pepper, coriander.

Hi,

we are a family from Toruń, a beautiful city in northern Poland. We love our little homeland and would like to tell you a little about it.
Toruń is famous for two things. Nicolaus Copernicus and gingerbread :).
This year is the 550th anniversary of the birth of our great astronomer who „stopped the sun and moved the earth”.
But today we want to invite you to make delicious gingerbread with us, which we bake every year at Christmas or whenever we feel like a delicious snack.

DIRECTIONS

1. First, we prepare all the ingredients.Put butter, honey, cocoa and spices in a saucepan. Heat it for a few minutes until the butter is completely melted. Mix the sweet cream thoroughly. If the ingredients boil, it’s okay.Set the saucepan with the sweet, spicy liquid aside to cool.
2. Mix yogurt or cream with two teaspoons of baking soda.Now we mix everything in a bowl.Mix the gingerbread dough thoroughly with a spoon. It will be thick and sticky, but you have to take it out of the bowl, make a ball out of it, cover with foil and put it in the fridge for at least 10 hours, preferably overnight.
3. It is best to prepare the dough the day before
4. After the night in the fridge, take the dough out, divide it into smaller pieces, sprinkle the worktop with flour and roll it out it’s a very fun stage for us, we can create whatever shapes come to mind.
5. Put the gingerbread cookies on a baking sheet and put them in the oven for about 12-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the prepared gingerbread cookies, at a temperature of 170 degrees.
6. When the gingerbread cookies are baked, take them out of the oven and wait for them to cool.
7. Decorating!!!!!Now the most pleasant stage, we use our imagination and decorate gingerbread cookies with chocolate, icing and dried fruit
8. You can prepare any icing, in any color, whatever you can think of.
